Response to George Floyd's Murder
Since things have become increasingly violent and destructive, I wanted to clarify my intent in sharing my last post (the MLK quote). It wasn’t to state that I “support” or “like” these riots. It was to explain that in order to prevent these riots in the future, we have to dig deep and really understand what is causing them in the first place.
Humans have the emotional range to feel outraged over injustice AND crushed over a community getting destroyed. This is not to say that stuff outweighs a person’s life, but to acknowledge the heartbreaking rippling effects of hate.
As we pick up the glass from off the streets, I hope and I pray that we ask ourselves how we can make a greater effort to lead with empathy and take steps to help those who need it. Because it is going to take more than a hammer and nails to rebuild our hearts.
