2024 New Years Resolutions
It’s sort of crazy to think I’ve been doing resolutions for years and years. Some people think they’re stupid, and I get the whole “don’t wait for the new year to make a change” mindset. But I will dig my stilettos into the ground and say they can be an effective way to reflect on what you’ve accomplished in the 365 days and also steer you in a fulfilling direction for the upcoming year.
Here’s how things shaped up for 2023’s Resolutions:
Move my body more. I am particularly motivated since we are having our wedding celebration in 2023, and I want to look and feel great. Mission accomplished. I’ll get into more details on a separate post but I ended up hiring a personal trainer leading up to our wedding celebration. After the wedding I started taking pilates classes.
Read as many books as I can. Mission accomplished. I read 26 books last year! With how busy life is as a working mom of a toddler (and a husband who travels for a living), I am proud of this.
Pick up my Nikon more than I did last year (which would mean at least 3 times). Mission accomplished, but barely.
Pick up my paintbrushes more than I did last year (which would mean at least once). This is a sad failure. There just aren’t enough hours in the day it seems.
Embrace the scariness of change. As I mentioned, I am in a totally different career path and industry than I was this time last year. It’s hard to step back in a sense and to learn new things - but it is also very exciting and could lead to incredible experiences. Mission accomplished BIG TIME.
2024 Resolutions
Continue to move my body regularly. Pilates, walking, lifting weights in the basement — I see these things as being important to my health and want to continue to prioritize doing them.
Same as 2023, read as many books as I can. We’re only on the third day of 2024, and I’ve already read one novel. Whoo-hoo! Reading is such a great hobby for busy parents because you can do little bits at a time.
Practice shooting people and food with my Nikon.
Practice art, somehow. Maybe I switch to drawing to make it easier to fit into my hectic life. Maybe I can find a buddy I can text art updates with. When I was painting regularly (pre-COVID), I had a little community, which made it so much more fun — not to mention motivating and inspiring.
Career-wise, I have lots to think about! My goal is to continue to keep an open mind and to pursue happiness over money (as the money always follows). Sometimes, it’s hard to decipher what makes me happy versus what society tells me should make me happy.
Less take out/food delivery. Oh this will be a HARD one! When I get tired, especially after a long day of work, it’s hard for me to muster up the energy to cook a balanced meal, especially if Brett is away (which is often). My spending habits are honestly really good otherwise. Since the holidays, I’ve had more bandwidth to cook proper meals, and it’s reminded me of how good it feels to eat nourishing home-cooked foods! It’s all about planning.
Alright folks, wish me luck! :)
