Forget Your Audience
Blogging sure has evolved over the years! There is often an overlap between bloggers and influencers. As someone who has been blogging for decades, I regularly get people messaging me asking me how to do it and where they should start. People often fall into one common trap, and in all fairness, it is so easy to do so.
The trap Iām referencing is when someone starts this process by trying to figure out what other people want them to say, rather than approaching it from a place of authority. If you base your content around what you think your audience wants rather than what you want, you will rob yourself of the joy that can come out of creating content, and the content you create will feel (and probably sound) unnatural. Not to mention, I have never met anyone who has been able to keep up their blog when they take an audience-first approach.
By being authentic to who you are and what messages you want to deliver, you put yourself in a position to build your brand organically. This is also a more strategic way to earn a following, as people can typically see through forced content.
The exception to this rule is if you are creating content for another company, in which case, you should have a defined path to follow. But in terms of creating for your brand, my best piece of advice is to be yourself.
