Operation Milf - Where I’m Starting

I haven't worked out (apart from walking) regularly in about a year. With work and grad school, something had to give. Then I became pregnant. During my first and second trimesters, I was able to walk and typically walked 2-7 miles most days. Although challenging, I felt good and managed this level of activity despite the limited time I had.

Things changed drastically during my third trimester. In mid-June, I tripped on an uneven sidewalk during one of my walks (side note - the only thing worse than the weather in New England is the sidewalks, ugh!). Later that day, my right knee became swollen and was clicking every time I bent it. I implemented RICE and ended up seeing an ortho who suspected I had a slight meniscus tear (I was pregnant, so I couldn't get scanned to confirm).

Things escalated quickly as I followed the doctor's order to rest — trigger fingers, what we thought was plantar fasciitis (we now believe it's Achilles tendonitis). My knee remained stiff and clicked going up and downstairs. The weight I gained and the swelling from pregnancy sure didn't help any of these issues either. By the end of my pregnancy, I was physically miserable with these body aches and pains.

On September 3rd, I had our son via c-section. My trigger fingers are almost entirely gone (a non-issue), and my knee seems to be better than what it was before but still clicking (however, less intensely). The only pain that remains is in my heels. The more I walk, the more I feel the pain, and it is particularly sharp in the morning. But I am working with a PT to improve and fix it.

I got my clearance for all physical activities on October 18th. While I've lost some of my pregnancy weight, I still have some to lose. Losing it will help with the residual aches and pains, so I am extra eager. For the first time, I am motivated by something other than just vanity.

But make no mistake - your girl wants to look good, too! ;)

Dana Podgurski

Hi everyone! I'm Dana Podgurski!

I'm a foot in the mouth, tongue in cheek, head in the clouds, and heart on the sleeve kind of gal. I live for new experiences, but am a total sucker for nostalgia at the same time. I'm tough as nails, but am a complete softie for all things kids and animal-related. I fly by the seat of my pants, and live for adventure. But I firmly believe that adventure is a mindset that one's self determines.

For work, I am a marketer through and through. Bringing brands to life, and content marketing are passions of mine. Many would consider what I do as nerdy, but I seriously dig it. I have been doing marketing contract work for years, and appreciate the variety it brings, and the relationships I've developed with my clients. If you're interested in a partnership, click here.

For fun, I love to create - writing/blogging, photography, and painting are my main three mediums of doing so. Feeling good and healthy is also high on my list, as it really lends itself to making everything more enjoyable. So I maintain a very active lifestyle, eat pretty healthy, and am outdoors as much as I can be. And if my blog didn't make it abundantly clear, I absolutely LOVE to travel (near and far) and go on adventures. I spend any extra money I have on tickets and feel so fortunate to have been to several amazing destinations both domestically and internationally. There's nothing more fulfilling than coming home from a trip and adding a been-there-pin to my map.

Cheers!

Dana
